Great Bend Recreation Commission is headquartered in the Carl Soden Recreation Building, also known as The Rec Center. The Rec Center houses the Jean Cavanaugh Wellness Center and the Burnside Room, Lounge and Kitchen. The City Auditorium is connected to The Rec Center and operated by GBREC.

Jean Cavanaugh Wellness Center

Located within The Rec Center, the Jean Cavanaugh Wellness Center was made possible by a donation to the Great Bend Recreation Commission Foundation Fund via the Golden Belt Community Foundation by Jean Cavanaugh. The Jean Cavanaugh Wellness Center provides the opportunity for patrons in Great Bend to enjoy the benefits of becoming active and improving personal health.

Amenities

PreCore cardio and Life Fitness strength equipment are available for cardiovascular and core strength training. Treadmills, elliptical cross trainers, recumbent bikes, and 10 strength stations are available. Wi-Fi is available.

The Rec CenterBurnside Room, Lounge & Kitchen

These areas within The Rec Center hosts numerous recreation programs throughout the year. The Burnside Room, Lounge and Kitchen are available for community and private events. Limited availability.  Contact Great Bend Rec for reservations or email contact Vandy Simpson at  vsimpson@gbrec.net.

  • Burnside Room and Lounge: Capacity of 120 with tables and chairs, standing capacity of 260
  • Kitchen: Capacity of 40 with tables and chairs, standing capacity of 60

The City Auditorium is located adjacent to The Rec Center and daily operations are facilitated by Great Bend Rec. The City Auditorium is a primary program site for adult and youth team sports programs and special events for Great Bend Rec. Constructed in 1938, the City Auditorium is a beautiful building also utilized for community concerts. Contact Great Bend Rec for availability.
