During the summer months, Great Bend Rec utilizes the Great Bend Wetlands Waterpark for swimming lessons. Great Bend Rec partners with the City of Great Bend in providing aquatic services and programs for the Wetlands Waterpark.

Community, City & School FacilitiesFit Trail and Musical Park (Veteran’s Memorial Park)
The Fit Trail is located on the North side of Veteran’s Memorial Park lake near the hike and bike trail. The Fit Trail features a cluster of 11 pieces of fitness equipment with strength training and cardio exercise equipment such as stretching bars, elliptical, ab crunch, chest/back press, cardio stepper, squat press, plyometric stations and more. Each station is equipped with instructions on how to use each piece of equipment.
Enjoy a medley of musical instruments located in a musical park located on the west side of Veteran’s Lake.
These two projects were generously provide by the Great Bend Recreation Commission, City of Great Bend, Great Bend Kiwanis Club, Golden Belt Community Foundation and the GBRC Foundation.

The Veteran’s Toddler Playground includes the latest in toddler playground equipment and a unique play experience for children 2 to 12 years. The Fire Station and Loft are great for independent play. Enjoy the toddler swings, partnership swing and the multiple person Oodle Swing. A Great Bend Kiwanis Club, Golden Belt Community Foundation, Great Bend Recreation Commission and City of Great Bend project.

The Great Bend Senior Center hosts many senior services and educational programs provided by Great Bend Rec. General Public transportation services and Friendship Meals are provided at this site by other entities. The Santa Fe Trail Mural on the Senior center was created by Great Bend Rec staff, Park Elementary students and Seniors attending the Senior Center.

Brit Spaugh Zoo hosts many educational programs provided by Great Bend Rec, including kids class and Stop & Learn educational sessions. Great Bend Rec utilizes the open park spaces, Zoo and education center for adult and youth educational and academic programs and activities. The Great Bend Mural Project located in the Zoo area was designed and created by Great Bend Rec Staff and local youth.

Great Bend Rec utilizes Veteran’s Memorial Lake and Stone Lake for outdoor educational programs such as Basic Fishing Activities. Great Bend Rec and the Rotary Club provides fishing equipment that can be checked out at The Rec for public use.
